My name is Adey Omotade @adeyomotade.

I am a composer, sound conceptualist, drummer and artist from Osogbo, Nigeria. I meld traditional Yoruba beats with electronic production techniques to tilt the nexus of contemporary music based on the Ifa Corpus; as a means of cultural preservation and identity formation.

The Ifa Corpus is the cultural heritage and knowledge system of Yoruba people - one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa and 36 countries including Cuba. The binary counting system used by computers originated from the Ifa Corpus. Radiocarbon dating places the “classical” period of Yorùbá art around AD 1000-1400. Colonialism, globalization and religious pressures – has led to the decline in the preservation of this knowledge system.

For the past seventeen years, I have been in training with my father- an Ifa Priest; gathering and collecting sounds, beats, and orations, observing and learning the secrets and traditions of the Ifa Corpus.

I share this knowledge through music by merging digital and analog music techniques and technologies to create a new sound which my wife- Emalohi @emalohi has named “POST AFROBEAT.”

POST AFROBEAT merges my contemporary, electronic and digital compositions with archival materials, with time honored cultural and musical materials.

My goal is to increase the visibility of the Ifa Corpus through music, dance, performance and rituals from the first Odu (verse) of the corpus to the last one (which is infinity).
